model RS-G/2
Installation Instructions
The RS-G/2 converts switch closures, relay closures, or logic levels to serial commands for the Sony UVW-1200 and -1400 VTRs. The -G/2 has switch inputs for Stop, Play, Pause, and Eject.
All contact closures should be at least 20 milliseconds in length. There is no maximum closure limitation other than all GPI input scanning stops until all inputs have returned to open-contact conditions.
The RS-G/2 adapter simply plugs into the RS232 port of the Sony model UVW-1200 or UVW-1400 videotape recorder. The RS-G/2 derives its power from the RS232 port and no other power source is required.
Make sure that the UVW tape machine has its serial transmission rate set to 9600 baud. This is set from within the on-screen menu of the UVW tape machine. Should it be necessary to change the UVW's baud rate, it is recommend that the baud rate be double-checked to insure that the change was actually accepted by the tape machine. The Remote/Local switch on the UVW's front panel also needs to be in the Remote position in order for the serial interface to control the deck.
