model RS-2/9
Installation Instructions
for Final Cut Pro and ProVTR systems
Hardware
The RS-2/9 adapter connects between an RS232
serial port and an RS422 serial port. When installing the RS-2/9,
be careful to note which end goes to which device. The RS232 end
connects to the VTR (Sony UVW1200/1400 or Panasonic AJ-D230/250)
via a 6' cable. The RS422 end connects to the controller via a
10' cable. The adapter's label clearly shows the correct
orientation.
Check the Master/Slave pushbutton on the side of the RS-2/9 for the correct position. The button should be locked in for a system in which FCP is controlling an RS232 VTR (see FCP device list).
The adapter's built-in diagnostic LEDs should both light up to indicate that power is available to the adapter. If both LEDs are dark, then check your cables. The upper LED, labeled "data", will flash whenever data is transmitted or received, helping to confirm the communications link. The constant flashing of the data LED will look like a constant flickering.
Software
Final Cut Pro will need to be configured for
the Sony RS232 VTR. Within the serial device driver selection
window, select "Sony RS232" instead of the any of the
other protocols. You should have deck control now, provided that
you have selected Remote on the VTR.
