model RS-1/LY
Interface Adapters
The RS-1/L is available in two versions, the
RS-1/LX and the RS-1/LY. The 1/LX has several controls and
operating modes, including automatic power up and power down. The
1/LX has switch inputs for Record, Stop, Play, Fast Forward,
Rewind, and Power. Intended for camcorder control, the 1L/Y has
switch inputs for Record Start/Stop, Zoom Wide, Zoom Tele, and
Auto Focus On/Off. Both 1/L adapters have status LEDs to tally
Record and Stop.
RS-1/LY Connections (25-pin D male)
LANC cable (L, +V, GND and pins
14, 1, 4)
The LANC cable can be connected to either solder pads on the
printed circuit board or at the DB25 male connector. The LANC
cable has three conductors: white for LANC Data, red for Power,
and a bare copper braid for Ground. The PC board solder pads are
marked with L, +V, and GND for LANC Data, Power, and Ground
connections. Refer to the interconnect schematic for the DB25
connections.
Power Switch (pin 15)
The power switch has three distinct functions: Power On, Power
Off, and On Screen Display on/off. The RS-1/LY can awaken (Power
On) a hibernating camcorder or deck by a simple, momentary
(>150 msec) closure of the power switch. The power switch must
be connected between the LANC Data line and the Power Switch
connections on the DB25 connector.
To put the camcorder or deck back into low power mode (Power Off), the power switch must be held closed for about 2 seconds. The RS-1/LY will signal that it's ready for power switch release by flashing the Record and Stop LEDs in sequence. Once the power switch is released, a LANC command to power down is sent to the camcorder or deck.
The power switch has one additional function, selectable via the OPTion straps on pins 19 and 20. With no OPTion straps installed, a brief power switch push will toggle the control of the On Screen Display (OSD) feature. A short push of the power switch (less than 2 seconds so as to not cause a power down) will toggle between OSD on and off. With OPT1 pin grounded, the brief power switch push will cause the Superimpose function to toggle. With OPT0 pin grounded, the brief power switch push will cause the Fader function to toggle.
Zoom Telephoto (pin 18)
A contact closure to ground causes the lens to zoom in. The lens
continues to move until the switch is opened. Alternatively, an
external capacitor and variable resistor can be added to allow
variable zoom speed. See the interface schematic for circuit
details.
OPT1(pin 19)
When strapped to ground, enables the Superimpose function for the
Power switch.
OPT0(pin 20)
When strapped to ground, enables the Fader function for the Power
switch.
Zoom Wide (pin 21)
A contact closure to ground causes the lens to zoom out. The lens
continues to move until the switch is opened. Alternatively, an
external capacitor and variable resistor can be added to allow
variable zoom speed. See the interface schematic for circuit
details.
Focus Far (pin 22)
A contact closure to ground causes the lens to focus out. The
lens continues to move until the switch is opened.
Focus Near (pin 23)
A contact closure to ground causes the lens to focus in. The lens
continues to move until the switch is opened.
Auto Focus (pin 24)
A contact closure to ground causes the Auto Focus function to
toggle. Remote Auto Focus control works only on some camcorders.
Record (pin 25)
A contact closure to ground causes the camcorder or deck to
Record. Once in Record mode, a contact closure to ground causes
the camcorder or deck to go into Record Pause. Yet another
contact closure to ground causes the camcorder or deck to resume
recording.
LEDs (pins 16, 17)
The Record LED (pin 16) will illuminate whenever the camcorder or
deck is in Record or Record Pause modes. The Stop LED (pin 17)
will illuminate whenever the camcorder or deck is in Stop, Pause,
or Record Pause modes. Both LED pins have current limiting - only
a simple LED connected to ground is required. If the camcorder
goes into Stop mode, this indicates that a tape- and
power-conserving timeout has occurred; the camcorder must first
be powered down before any recording can be attempted.
