Why go to the trouble of designing a properly working adapter when you can just copy someone else's? We're not talking about some Asian knock-offs; no, these were done right here in the United States.

That's the approach dataMate took with their DM7015 when they needed an RS232-to-RS422 adapter that would actually work with all applications. Take a look below and see if you can detect any, um, similarities . . .

Next, here's a rework of our RS-2/4 adapter, albeit on a different scale (surface mount rather than through-hole). While we suppose the identical parts selection and nearly identical placement might be a mere coincidence, the odds are against it.
