RS-2/S1, -2/S2, -2/S3
Interface Adapters

The RS-2/S adapter offers a reliable and cost-effective translation between RS-232 and Sony's Control-S serial interfaces. All PC computers support the RS-232 standard while many of Sony's VCRs and home electronic equipment support the Control-S interfaces. The RS-2/S adapters complete the connection, giving the PC nearly complete control of video equipment supporting Control-S. The Control-S protocol is the same as used by Sony's infrared remotes and, therefore, is also unidirectional in nature. The device under control cannot be polled for any sort of status.

The RS-2/S adapter passes on native Control-S commands that are sent in via the RS-232 interface. Two bytes in length, the RS-232 characters contain 12 bits of Control-S information, 2 bits of device addressing, and 2 bits of byte ID. The device addressing bits apply to the RS-2/S2 and -2/S3 adapters and serve to steer Control-S commands to the appropriate cable.

Built in a compact plastic case (2.1" x 2.2" x 0.6"), these adapters require no separate power supply, instead deriving power from the RS-232 modem lines.
