RS-2/L
Installation Instructions
Hardware
The RS-2/L adapter simply plugs into the RS-232 port of most any PC, whether it be a laptop or desktop unit. The attached cable connects between the RS-2/L and the controlled video device, typically a video cassette recorder (VCR). When installing the RS-2/L, be careful to note which jack to use on your VCR. The Control-L jack (3/32 inch, stereo) is marked on the VCR chassis as "Control L In" or "LANC In", or may be identified with a stylized "L" within a circle. (The logo resembles a clock face with the time reading 3:00.)
Software
The enclosed diskette contains several software packages, none of which are required to be used in conjunction with any commercial packages. Each program is fairly well documented on the diskette. Some of the programs directly support the RS-2/L adapter while others are of general interest. The complete "Sony Serial" specification is also included on diskette.
SONYCTL is a very simple VTR controller program that allows you to quickly check out the RS-2/L adapter.
WSONY is another simple VTR controller program that runs under MS Windows. WSONY features a finished, professional look and the ability to capture a timecode value into a word processing program.
LOGIT and LOGTHIS are two tape logging programs that have (or will soon have) serial control over VTR transport controls plus the ability to read timecode.
OTHER programs also work well with the RS-2/L adapter, including Dubner International's Scene Stealer, Strassner's Ediqit, AVID's MediaLog, and many DVision programs. Virtually any PC program that sends Sony Serial protocol can be connected to Control-L VCRs through the RS-2/L adapter. None of these commercial programs require any drivers from our included diskette.
